This beautiful Upper East Side apartment was a complete transformation; merging separate apartments into a home for two, with room for hosting friends and extended family. In collaboration with Mitchell Studio and John Hummel, AND drew inspiration from architects and designers of the same period as the 1929 building — Delano and Aldrich, David Adler, and Francis Elkins — as well as historic low-country elements from their South Carolina roots.
Elegant design fills the home, with custom crown moulding, leaded and mercury glass pairings, and the client’s own Victorian style furniture, while modern torcheres, lacquered ceilings, and mottled caba skin adds modern depth and softness to the walls.
The balance of form and function carries through the home, with attention to materials and experiences in the kitchen, back entrance mudroom, and guest rooms; all with custom, high-end craftsmanship and carefully chosen materials capable of withstanding repeated use from entertaining and hosting guests — including grandchildren.
